Myths and Legends of Coban Rondo Waterfall
Coban Rondo, meaning "Widow Waterfall" in Javanese, is named after a local legend that tells a tragic love story. Long ago, this place witnessed the sorrow of Dewi Anjarwati, who lost her husband, Raden Baron Kusumo, shortly after their wedding. Just 36 days into their marriage, Dewi Anjarwati wanted to visit her parents on Mount Kawi.

Despite local beliefs that newlyweds shouldn't travel far within the first 40 days of marriage, the couple set off on their journey. On the way, they were ambushed by a group led by Joko Lelono, who was captivated by Dewi Anjarwati's beauty and demanded Raden Baron Kusumo give her up. Raden Baron Kusumo refused, and a fierce battle broke out.
To protect his wife, Raden Baron Kusumo told his guards to hide Dewi Anjarwati behind the waterfall. Sadly, he was killed in the fight, leaving Dewi Anjarwati a widow after just a few days of marriage. This is why the waterfall is called Coban Rondo. It's not just a beautiful place but also a reminder of this touching and tragic story.
